New York authorities say they have the man in custody that is accused of fatally stabbing a 19-year- old female who rejected his advances. He also injured the victim’s twin sister.
Veo Kelly, 20, surrendered to police Friday morning, ending a weeklong manhunt, NBC News reported.
Kelly is accused of attacking Samyia Spain and her sister, Sanyia. The two were with a group of friends and relatives at Slope Natural Plus on Fourth Avenue when Kelly approached them, law enforcement sources said. They rejected his advances, and that’s when the situation escalated.
“This guy came out of a party hole down the street, got very aggressive with one of the girls trying to get some contact information,” Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said. “When they didn’t take to his advances, it got verbal. Then it got physical.”
A witness said Kelly called the victims names before storming off and then returning soon after.
When the women left the store, the killer cornered them, authorities said. Kelly allegedly pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Samyia Spain in the chest and neck. Her sister, Sanyia, was cut in the arm and survived.
Law enforcement sources said Kelly was with his attorney when he turned himself in and was being held at the 78th Precinct — just blocks away from the Park Slope deli where the attack took place.
