Despite not agreeing with North Carolina’s new law against the LGBT, the NFL announced they will still be holding their meeting in Charlotte next month.
League spokesman Brian McCarthy told ESPN.com in a statement, “We embrace diversity and inclusiveness in all of our policies. The Panthers have made clear their position of non-discrimination and respect for all their fans. The city of Charlotte also has made clear its position.
The House Bill 2 was passed and supersedes a Charlotte law that protected transgender people who use public restrooms based on their gender identity.
The Carolina Panthers have maintained their stance on the topic and the NFL made it clear today they were behind the team.
“As the NFL noted, our organization has a long history of non-discrimination and treating all of our patrons at Bank of America Stadium with dignity and respect. Anyone who loves football and the Panthers is and will continue to be welcome at our stadium,” said team spokesman Steven Drummond.
As of now, both the NFL and NBA are hoping Charlotte and the state of North Carolina can sort through their opposite point of views.
