Orlando PD confirmed that they have arrested New York Jets Running Back, Chris Johnson, Friday night. He was charged with the open carrying of a firearm, which is a second degree misdemeanor.
The incident happened shortly before 9pm when Johnson was stopped for rolling through a stop sign. When the officer approached the car he noticed the handle of a handgun on the floor between two seats. By law, the weapon should have been concealed. Johnson was arrested and released on $250 bond.
Johnson’s story slightly differs from police, however. According to sources close to him, Johnson says Police asked to search his car, and he cooperated. His licensed and registered firearm was found under a book bag under a seat instead of locked up, resulting in the charge for “open” carrying. (Sidenote: He wasn’t charged with illegal possession so I’m not sure why he’s contesting this — but whatever!)
The Jets have declined to comment, but are aware of the situation.
