Oprah Winfrey is responding to allegations that she was a part of a sex trafficking and child pornography ring.
Back in March, around the time Tom Hanks announced he’d contracted the coronavirus, a slew of rumors began circling that the Queen of Talk was involved in sex trafficking and child porn. The rumor came about after people claimed Hanks only revealed his COVID-19 diagnosis so that he wouldn’t have to go to jail for being a part of the alleged sex ring that Winfrey was also a part of allegedly.
In addition, some people claim Harvey Weinstein was the one who told media and authorities about the alleged crimes from inside prison. Bossip reports that people believe Weinstein has a list of celebrities that are allegedly connected to the operation. The scandalous accusation bumped Winfrey to the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter, which prompted Auntie O to set things straight. “Just got a phone call that my name is trending. And being trolled for some awful FAKE thing. It’s NOT TRUE. Haven’t been raided or arrested. Just sanitizing and self-distancing with the rest of the world. Stay safe, everybody,” said Winfrey in a post. In her latest issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, Winfrey went more into detail about feeling shocked by the claims.
“Imagine sitting cozily in bed, when you get a phone call telling you you’re trending on Twitter. And you discover it’s a bogus and vile story that you were arrested and your home was raided for sex trafficking and child pornography,” said Winfrey. “I can’t and don’t want to imagine an uglier accusation. At first, I was confused. Yes, that’s my name: “Oprah.” But I’m in bed in my pj’s and socks, and somehow #OprahArrested is a thing. My worst fear realized. Being slandered, accused of a crime I didn’t commit.”
Despite her major popularity in media, Winfrey says she’s never gotten used to seeing her name in false headlines. “In 1988, I pulled a wagon carrying 67 pounds of fat on stage during what is still the highest-rated Oprah show ever. From that day forward, I was exploited regularly with false, crude, inappropriate stories about me and food. And then about me and Stedman. And me and Gayle. Anything and everything that could sell a tabloid. Every week, another lie to ignore or deny. I never got used to it. I always feared what the next false headline would be. Why? Because I knew for sure that while a lot of people dismissed the stories, a lot of other people believed them.”
She says her childhood scares her about fake stories being passed around about her. “My fear of being punished for something I didn’t do stems from growing up being whupped for minor infractions. I grew up trying to please everyone to avoid the whipping. Lies are like those lashes. As a young girl, I never got angry; whippings made me sad. The same is true today. Except the sadness isn’t for myself—it’s for what I see the world becoming. How easy it is to slice, destroy, cancel someone with vitriol. How easily people swallow and spread that vitriol with gleeful memes.”
Regardless, Winfrey says she’s taking the high road and staying positive. “No matter the challenge or situation, I always ask, what is this here to teach me? And even when I don’t know the answer, I know one thing for sure. To paraphrase Genesis 50:20: What man intended for evil, God intended for good.” The newest issue of Oprah’s magazine will be available on May 19, 2020.

So Oprah, you have discovered that false child abuse allegations actually DO exist, and that they hurt innocent people. Reflect on that Oprah. Reflect on your dear friend Gayle King’s unjournalistic treatment of the allegation against Woody Allen, in which Gayle obviously and obscenely sides with one of Mia’s children (Dylan) and diminishes the victimhood of another of Mia’s children (Moses). As if not FOUR out of FOUR child abuse expert instances have thoroughly investigated the allegation and ALL concluded it was NOT credible.
Oprah, you have co-created this atmosphere, in which a sensational allegation can turn into mass hysteria; in which some ‘woke opinion’ receives priority over due legal process; in which reputations of the innocent are sacrificed to satisfy the blood-thirst of an angry social media mob.
