Los Angeles prosecutors decided to file charges against Pete Davidson months after the comedian crashed a car into a Beverly Hills home.
Davidson now faces a misdemeanor reckless driving charge, the Los Angeles Times reported. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 27, the LA County District Attorney’s Office told the outlet.
“We believe that Mr. Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home,” the statement read. “Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this collision.”
The incident in question occurred on March 4 in a residential area of Beverly Hills. Responding Beverly Hills Police found a wrecked dark-colored four-door Mercedes-Benz and a damaged city fire hydrant, according to their report.
There were no injuries or arrests made at the time of the report.
According to TMZ, Davidson was driving the vehicle, and actor Chase Sui Wonders was in the passenger seat. The outlet also released photos of the said accident, which showed damage to both the car and the house.
Davidson’s charge is an effort by the LA D.A.’s office to prosecute reckless driving incidents. In its statement, the office said traffic fatalities in L.A. are the highest they’ve been in twenty years.
“As a result, it’s crucial that we take all allegations of reckless driving seriously and hold those responsible accountable,” the D.A.’s office said.
