Prodigy of Mobb Deep Must Tweet To Receive $150k Court Judgement

Times are changing when the condition of whether or not you win a court judgement is based on a tweet. Prodigy, one half of hip-hop duo Mobb Deep, took his label Universal Music to court over unpaid royalties on his solo work.

Mobb Deep entered into a contract with Universal back in 1995, while the company was still BMG. In the contract Mobb Deep was to fork over half their profits from future albums and songs. However, Prodigy says, that didn’t include his work as a solo artist. Universal/BMG thought it did, so they continued to take half of his earnings. Prodigy sued for $57,489 in addition to attorney fees. 

Universal Music Group has now agreed to hand over $153,751.21 under one condition; that Prodigy tweets that the beef is over. The label wants Prodigy to specifically tweet, “My dispute with UMPG was all a misunderstanding. Thankful that we resolved it quickly and happy to be continuing my long-standing relationship with UMPG.”  

Prodigy’s twitter, although unclear if he mans it himself, isn’t all that active. His last tweet was roughly 24 hours ago, but the tweets are mainly shares from his Instagram and promo for music. That said, for the six-figures, I’m sure he’ll fire off a quick tweet.
