A member of The Proud Boys who was accused of breaching the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and then bragging about it to his mother and friends on Facebook was arrested Tuesday in New Jersey.
26-year-old Shawn Price is a self-described member of the Proud Boys and claims to hold a leadership position in the group’s northern New Jersey chapter.
Price was charged with six federal offenses over his alleged role in the attack on the Capitol and made his first court appearance in New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon.
Court documents show that Price sent out many messages to various Facebook users in which he boasted about his affiliation to the Proud Boys, his attendance at various “Make America Great Again” events, and shared his intention to go to Washington on the day of the vote certification.
Photos from the breach confirm Price was at the Capitol’s lower west terrace as the mob pushed their way inside as officers fired chemical irritants, the FBI affidavit said. Price even reportedly wore goggles to protect his eyes.
Documents also show messages between Price and his mother on Facebook. He told her he “led the storm” and allegedly sent her a video in which he called Capitol Police “f**king scumbags” for shooting tear gas at the rioters.
Price’s mother allegedly responded by asking him when he was heading home, warning him to “get out of there,” and advising him to “try washing… with baby shampoo” to help with the pepper spray.
Price is now facing misdemeanor charges and felony charges for obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and charges of obstruction of justice.
