Rihanna, who wore a gorgeous semi-sheer lace catsuit on the cover of Vogue’s May 2022 issue, confessed that her pregnancy with boyfriend A$AP Rocky was unplanned.
The singer, 34, wore a daring Alaïa one-piece and matching shoes for the breathtaking photo before showing her naked bump in a Saint Laurent coat by Anthony Vaccarello.
Rihanna told the outlet that she’s ‘frightened’ of feeling ‘out of control emotionally’ after giving birth to her first child because she’s ‘scared’ after hearing stories from other women who have struggled with postpartum depression.
As far as unplanned pregnancy, Rihanna said: ‘I wouldn’t say planning. But certainly I was not planning against it. I don’t know when I ovulate or any of that type of s**t. We just had fun.” She continued, “‘And then it was just there on the test. I didn’t waste any time. I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning, and our journey began.'”
In another photo, Rihana showed off her bare bump in a chic red cropped jacket and a matching skirt from Rick Owens before changing into a Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture By Glenn Martens dress.
While discussing her plans for the day of her delivery, Rihanna acknowledged that Covid restrictions might interfere with her plans to have all her friends and family there but joked that she might ‘hire a party bus’ to park outside.
Despite having her first child, the singer asserted that she was determined to continue managing her billion-dollar empire as she raised her first child, saying: “‘Balance is one of my biggest challenges and always has been. And now there’s another human being coming into play; it changes what that means again. ‘Still, I have businesses that aren’t going to run themselves. My mom handled the three of us with not even close to the amount of resources I have, so I can absolutely do it. What does it looks like? I’m not sure.'”
In addition to embracing her changing body, Rihanna has been proudly displaying her bump in various scantily clad looks.
“‘I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ”decent” for pregnant women. My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that,'” she said.
‘This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy? ‘When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle. I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing.'”
She told Elle that she’s in the “‘where you wake up and you’re like, oh, do I have to get dressed?'” stage, adding: ‘There’s a pregnancy glow. There’s also those days, girl.'” She said, “‘Especially in the third trimester, makeup for sure helps you feel like a real person. I just focused a lot on moisturizing and contouring.'”
RiRi then reflected on the changes her body has gone through, saying: ‘The face gets a little round and chubby. The nose starts to spread. Everything is a challenge, from getting dressed and how you’re going to do your makeup. But I like challenges. I like things that force me to be creative and create in new ways. And with beauty, there’s so much that you can do.'”
Also, during the interview, she revealed that it took her a long time to see Rocky in a romantic light, even though the pair had been friends since 2013.
She said: “People don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me and I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in.”
During the Covid pandemic, the songstress acknowledged that her romance with Rocky grew slowly, characterizing him as “her family at the time.”
“‘I cooked our food on this little janky grill I bought from Walmart. I still have it, too. It works like nobody’s business. I love the simple things but also the grand adventures. There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand b******t, it’s just us living. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.'”
However, though Rihanna is getting ready to welcome her first child, she said she never planned to be pregnant before marriage.
She said, “‘I always thought it would be marriage first, then a baby, but who the f**k says it has to be that way. I’m certainly not gonna let that get in the way of me being a mom.'” she continued, “‘They’re going to teach me more than I could ever teach them. And I want them to go for it. I want to see who they are in the world, who they become. Because I’m just here to keep them on the rails—a passenger as much as the driver.'”
Later in the interview, she hinted at a ‘totally different’ image for her much-anticipated next record, claiming that it’s been ‘fun’ to ‘take the pressure off of planning the next album.
In a GQ interview in May 2021, Rocky announced they were dating, calling the Barbados-born artist “‘the love of his life.'”
“‘She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones…. I think when you know, you know. She’s the One,'” he clarified.
So far, the singer has yet to confirm the sex of the baby. Many fans speculate that she is having a girl after photos surfaced of the singer shopping in Target.
