Ryan Destiny Lands Lead Role

Ryan Destiny has just been cast to lead the Universal Boxing Drama ‘Flint Strong.’

According to Deadline, Destiny is set to star as Claressa “T-REX” Shields, the Flint Michigan-native, world champion boxer who is the subject of the Rachel Morrison’s directorial debut.

The film is based on the 2015 boxing documentary “T-Rex” by Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper. “Moonlight”’s Barry Jenkins wrote the script.

The movie tells the story of 17-year-old Shields, who dreamed of becoming the first woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing and had that dream come to fruition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Destiny is best known as one of the leads in Fox’s short-lived musical drama “Star” and will have a  recurring role on the upcoming third season of Freeform’s “grown-ish.”
