Another Fort Hood soldier has gone missing, and his disappearance follows 11th deaths of soldiers from the base.
According to the Daily Mail, a massive search began on Thursday for 23-year-old Sgt. Elder Fernandes, it is being led by the local police and the US Army. Meanwhile, the Fort Hood base is under a separate independent investigation following a string of missing soldiers.
Fernandes was last seen on Monday wearing his black Army physical training shorts and t-shirt with red trainers when his staff sergeant dropped him off at his Killeen home, which is four miles from the base.
The 23-year-old is originally from Brockton, Massachusetts, and is a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear specialist with the 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade at the Central Texas Army installation.
Fernandes’s car was located with all his belongings still inside, but he never picked up the keys to his recently leased new apartment.
The missing soldier alert said the Army’s main concern was ‘to ensure his safety and wellbeing.’
Out of the 11 deaths of Fort Hood soldiers, five have been linked to foul play.
