Last night’s episode of Love & Hip Hop New York was battle of the side chick and the main chick and one storyline in particular stood out to me. DJ Self’s love triangle with Yorma and Cardi B was one that I couldn’t go another day without discussing.
Let’s break down the relationship. DJ Self is a certified playboy and has been dealing with Cardi B for a couple of years, apparently. They have both made it clear that they are just friends with benefits. In fact, Cardi has a man who happens to be in jail, so technically Self is her side piece. One thing Cardi hates though, is when someone lies to her. Unfortunately, Self wasn’t completely honest about the fact that he has a girlfriend.
Yorma, Self’s main chick, is slightly insecure. Rightfully so, she knows Self is a player. All she wants from Self is for him to publicly acknowledge her as his girlfriend, in hopes that it will let the other ladies know that he is spoken for. Newsflash, he can post you on Instagram, wear a wedding ring and tattoo your face on his genitals, it still won’t stop some girls from getting at him. Yorma seems like a sweet girl, but her jealousy will end up eating her alive.
Last night DJ Self attempted to appease Yorma by taking her out to a party. Unfortunately, Cardi B happened to show up at the party as well. Self tried to play it cool but as soon as Cardi B approached Self and his girl, Yorma got up and things got tense. It resulted in an all out girl fight.
Here’s what I learned…
First of all, Cardi B broke the hoe code here. Yes, I understand DJ Self lied about having a girlfriend, however, whether he had a girl or not is none of Cardi’s business. It was mutually understood that they were just fucking. In fact, Cardi has a man she’s happily cheating on too. Cardi, under no circumstances, should have ever approached Self and his girlfriend. By approaching Self and his girl with animosity, Cardi played herself. She now exhibits the behavior of a side chick catching main chick feelings and that’s no good. Just enjoy the good sex and if he plays you, deal with that at a later time.
Secondly, congratulations Yorma, you played yourself. As the main chick you should never ever go at the side chick. She’s not the one you are in a relationship with and she owes you no explanation. The minute Yorma stood up, as if she wanted to fight, I knew nothing good would come of it. You see, Yorma chooses to stay. Despite the feelings of insecurity, the proof that Self may be cheating, the red flags being thrown in her face, she CHOOSES to stay. If you are going to choose to subject yourself to that type of abuse, at least choose to handle it with grace. Never let the side hoes see you sweat. Knowing that they have that bit of control over you is a victory for them. They will continue to use it against you every time. What Yorma SHOULD have done was politely played it cool as Cardi provided her with all of the intel she needed in order to verify Self was a cheater. Then she should have handled Self when they got home.
Lastly, DJ Self is clearly good at what he does, but not good enough. On the outside, he played the entire situation cool, which amongst dogs is commendable, but he should have never lied to Cardi in the first place. Cardi holds the upper hand in his relationship and he should have never given her that much power. Then again, this all made for great TV.
I don’t condone cheating, but if you’re going to be a dirty dog, there’s ways to do it right. Self may need to take notes from Peter Gunz on this one, he’s managed to get his side chick and main chick to technically live under one roof.
