Snoop Dogg Calls For “Minority Clause” To Be Included In Marijuana Legislation

Snoop Dogg says lawmakers should consider a “minority clause” in the fight towards legalizing marijuana throughout the country.

During a panel discussion at the recent Revolt Summit in Los Angeles, the rapper expressed there should be a minority clause like how there is in the NFL. “I think there should be some sort of minority clause, the way that they do in sports with the NBA and the NFL, where they make certain rules where the minority has to get the first dibs,” the 48-year-old said. “Like, you gotta be somebody of color or somebody from that community to get first in action and then the rest of you motherf—ers with money get action. Because it shouldn’t be based on no money.”

Snoop is addressing the massive disparity between people of color and white people within the legal cannabis industry. The marijuana industry has been dominated by middle and upper-class white people, while people of color have historically been prosecuted for marijuana-related incidents or forced to endure more challenges when breaking into the business.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that “the party is over for cannabis companies,” citing a nearly 40 percent drop in share prices, “a string of disappointing quarterly reports and mounting skepticism about the industry’s rosy growth forecasts.”
