The family of actress Suzanne Shepherd has announced her passing.
Known for her key roles in “The Sopranos” and “Goodfellas,” Shepherd was 89 at the time of her passing.
Her daughter, Kate Shepherd, told TMZ that her mother passed away in her sleep Friday morning. A cause of death has not been determined, but Kate says her mother suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and had grown much weaker in recent days.
Suzanne made 20 appearances in episodes of “The Sopranos” as Mary DeAngelis, the mother of Edie Falco’s role as Carmela Soprano. She played a similar role in “Goodfellas” as the mother to Lorraine Bracco’s Karen Hill.
Sjepherd was also a beloved acting coach and also directed regional theater productions around the world.
She is survived by Kate, son-in-law Miles, daughter-in-law Joyce and granddaughter Isabelle.
