Looks like history-making rappers and entertainers are finding another source of income through sportswear brand Mitchell and Ness.
Complex reports the $250 million deal gives 25 percent to Michael Rubin’s Fanatics, another sportswear brand. Jay Z, Meek Mill, Lil’ Baby, Maverick Carter, and famous TikTok star Charlie Dixie and the D’Amelio family got in on the deal. The other 75 percent to Fanatics.
The Fanatics CEO and Philadephia 76ers partner Rubin calls the company an “iconic brand” and released a statement.
“I’m incredibly excited for Fanatics to partner with this incredible group of innovative owners to build upon the company’s already strong business that has kept the brand culturally relevant for more than 100 years. Growing up as a kid in Philadelphia, we looked at Mitchell & Ness as a badge of pride, and I truly believe this legendary brand has no limit.”
The current plan is to take Mitchell and Ness under Fanatics’ wing. Though both will operate as separate entities, Mitchell and Ness will mimick Fanatics’ current business model for global recognition and portfolio expansion. CEO of Mitchell and Ness, Kevin Wulff, will retain his current title.
Jay Z released a statement expressing his gratitude for working with the brand.
“Fashion is cyclical, but classics are forever. Mitchell & Ness is a true classic. I was an early adopter of this brand, as well as a part of a departure from athletic wear. I’m proud to play a small role in bringing it back, and in some cases, introducing the authenticity and quality of the Mitchell & Ness brand to a new generation.”
