A swingers meetup that was supposed to be a consensual late-night “playdate” ended in gunfire and death, investigators testified, after a gathering arranged online turned violent inside a Georgia apartment.
According to WILX, the shooting happened on November 29 at the MAA Benton apartment complex in Savannah. In court on Wednesday, December 17, investigators detailed how a woman, her boyfriend, and a man she met through the swingers’ website SDC Swingers Lifestyle came together for what initially appeared to be a mutual encounter.
According to testimony, the woman had been communicating with 40-year-old Alfonso Warner through the website and had met him previously. She told police she asked Warner if she could bring her boyfriend, 48-year-old Arthur Gaynor, to the meetup, and he agreed. An investigator told the court, “The person she was texting was who she met on a website, which is a swingers’ website. She had been texting him. She had met up with him before. And she knew his name was Alfonso.”
The woman said she and Gaynor arrived at Warner’s apartment around 1:30 a.m. The group began drinking and socializing, with no immediate signs of tension.
“She asked if she could bring what you call a playmate — so basically a friend,” the investigator testified. “He said that was OK. And they were basically inside partying, drinking, and having a good time.”
That atmosphere reportedly shifted during the gathering. The woman told police that Gaynor began feeling disrespected and wanted to leave. As they started putting their clothes back on, she said the situation escalated without warning. “He’s talking stuff, ‘we should just go, let’s end the party,’” the investigator said. According to her account, Warner then came out of another room with a gun. “As they put on their clothes, she advises that Alfonso comes from out of the room and shoots him,” the investigator told the court.
Gaynor was shot in the stomach and later died from his injuries. His girlfriend called 911 while driving him to the hospital and later helped police identify Warner by logging back into the swingers’ website and showing investigators his profile photos.
“She took it a step further and signed in online to the account where she initially met him and showed me pictures of him,” the investigator testified.
Warner was arrested on December 4 at a Red Roof Inn in Bryan County. He is charged with murder and aggravated assault.
