A video circulating on social media shows the emotional moments when former American Idol contestant Syesha Mercado was confronted by law enforcement officials who took her newborn baby due to a child protective services investigation.
Mercado’s firstborn son Amen’Ra was taken earlier this year and placed in foster care following a hospital visit where a doctor alerted child services, claiming the boy was malnourished.
Now, her newborn daughter was taken after authorities tell her the reason is she’d given birth while the legal battle for custody of her son was ongoing.
The video shows a distraught Mercado reluctantly handing over her baby girl to Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday in Florida.
Syesha begged the deputies not to take her baby, all while quickly pumping breast milk into a bottle to send off with her daughter.
During the welfare check, the frantic mother insisted her newborn was happy and healthy and claimed she had all the necessary paperwork to keep the kid, but cops on the scene pressured her to surrender her baby.
