Taco Bell Sued For Falsely Advertising The Amount of Beef Used In Some Menu Items

The fan-favorite Mexican Pizza will make a historic return to Taco Bell this May. From performances to petitions, Taco Bell taps into fans’ pent up excitement to celebrate the return of the beloved item, but saucy fan pleas alone aren’t all it took to get the Mexican Pizza back to menus. To expedite its return, the masterminds in the Taco Bell test kitchen worked to streamline operations and ingredient sourcing, and leave a lighter footprint at the same time.

Taco Bell has some explaining to do. A patron claims the fast food chain’s false advertising led him to buy a Mexican pizza that turned out to be very short on meat.

New York City resident Frank Siragusa accused Taco Bell of “unfair and materially misleading” advertising, citing concerns that the restaurant company exaggerates the amount of filling in its menu items. The complaint, filed Tuesday, references photos used on the company’s menu that show “at least double” the amount of meat and vegetables in its Crunchwraps and Mexican Pizzas.

Siragusa’s attorney also included stock images of Taco Bell’s food to compare to photos of actual products pulled from Reddit and user reviews, MSN reports.

Elsewhere in the suit, Siragusa’s legal team called the ads “unfair and financially damaging to consumers,” especially amid inflation, as prices increase and consumers face financial instability.

According to CNN, Siragusa is demanding $5 million for customers who fell victim to the misleading ads.
