It’s official, Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans are sore losers. Since the historical election results revealed Joe Biden as the President-elect, many Trump supporters, especially those in a position of power, have been adamant about overturning the results.
On Saturday, many Republicans announced they would be voting against electoral votes next week in Congress. The votes in Congress are supposed to “certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory,” according to CNN, but 11 Republican lawmakers have already decided to object the Electoral College votes. However, they give a proposition to have “an election commission conduct an ’emergency 10-day audit’ of the election returns in the ‘disputed states.'”
“A fair and credible audit—conducted expeditiously and completed well before January 20—would dramatically improve Americans’ faith in our electoral process and would significantly enhance the legitimacy of whoever becomes our next President. We owe that to the People,” Republican lawmakers said in a statement.
The need for a credible audit seems excessive since numerous sources and government departments confirmed, there has been no proof of voter fraud. CNN reported that the anticipated objections would not influence the election outcome.
Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley was the first to announce he would be objecting the results. ” [I am] glad to see more Senators joining the fight,” he tweeted on Saturday.
According to CNN, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has told the Senate GOP conference to vote their conscience and privately urged members not to join the efforts.
Previously reported, in total, 140 House Republicans are expected to vote against the electoral college votes. The 11 lawmakers aforementioned admit that their objections may not do anything. They are very prepared for most if not all Democrats, and perhaps more than a few Republicans, to vote otherwise.
The 11 lawmakers include Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Steve Daines of Montana, John Kennedy of Louisiana, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, and Mike Braun of Indiana, and Sens.-elect Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Bill Hagerty of Tennessee and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama.
All in all, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are set to become the next President and Vice President of the United States in just 18 days.
Glad to see more Senators joining the fight on #JAN6. I hope many more will listen to their constituents and act https://t.co/cqifv6u3gH
