Disney remakes are increasingly popular and audiences never seem to get tired of seeing their childhood favorites on the big screen. Films making a debut during Memorial Day weekend can either be a box office smash or a flop. It’s safe to say ”Aladdin,” featuring, Will Smith as the genie is a hit, earning $113 million over the Memorial Day opening weekend.
The film’s earnings have surpassed other Disney classics like ”Dumbo,” which debuted at $45.9 million earlier this year, ”The Jungle Book” in 2016 debuted at $103.2 million, however, ”Beauty and the Beast” pulled in a whopping $174.7 million in 2017. The critics reviews for ”Aladdin” so far are mixed, with a 57 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes yet scoring an A CinemaScore. Even with the success of the film, the 2019 holiday box office didn’t do as well other years only bringing in $226 million with sales from ”John Wick 3,” “The Avengers: Endgame” and “Detective Pikachu” collectively.
