World-renowned supermodel and mogul Tyra Banks is now going to by the name BanX.
Banks is stepping back into the modeling arena bigger and badder than ever and wants to encourage other women to feel comfortable being their most authentic selves.
Instead of Tyra 2.0, it’s more like “BanX.”
“Yeah, BanX with an X,” Banks said. “Because I want me coming out of retirement to be bigger than me, and for me to represent women to say, enough of this cookie-cutter thing.”
The supermodel who was the first black woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated 22 years ago is now the magazine’s covergirl again at 45.
Tyra’s sustainability in this industry is due in part to her ability to adapt and to continue challenging the status quo of what models could be and do. The superstar has done it all from modeling to acting to hosting her own talk show host, producing her own shows and more as a business mogul.
“As much as we’ve progressed with beauty, there’s still a long way to go of opening up the door and redefining what it means, and so that X stands for ‘X what you heard about what beauty means,’ ” she said. “We are making a new rule that so many more people can fit into this beauty box. Let’s bust the box open.”
The swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated with “BanX” on the cover, is out now.
