Consumers Beware! Walmart Recalls Great Value Shrimp After FDA Flags Radiation Risk

Walmart is recalling several lots of Great Value frozen shrimp after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning about potential radioactive contamination.

The frozen raw shrimp, imported from an Indonesian company, PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati, were sold nationwide under Walmart’s Great Value label. According to the FDA, one shipment tested positive for the presence of Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope. That shipment never entered U.S. commerce, but the agency still recommended a recall out of caution.

Walmart confirmed it has already removed the affected shrimp from shelves and online stores, stressing that “the health and safety of our customers is always a top priority.” The retailer also encouraged anyone who bought the shrimp to stop eating it immediately and either throw it away or return it for a full refund.

The recall affects the following Great Value frozen raw shrimp lots, all with a “Best by Date” of March 15, 2027:
•    Lot code: 8005540-1
•    Lot code: 8005538-1
•    Lot code: 8005539-1

Customers can find the lot codes printed on the packaging.

While the FDA has not confirmed contamination in products already sold to consumers, the agency stressed that the recall is a precautionary step to prevent possible health risks.
