Technology and social media seem to be common subjects of many relationship disagreements in this day-and-age, and now a young New York couple knows all too well just how real those disagreements can be.
21-year-old Laura Montanez was taken into police custody after reportedly stabbing her boyfriend in the heart with a kitchen knife.
Police responded to reports of a stabbing in the Bronx Sunday evening. According to police, Montanez stabbed her boyfriend, Kedwin Valerio, after an argument ensued between the two at the home of Valerio’s mother. Montanez reportedly called the police, not realizing how serious the wound actually was. Valerio was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say that while the argument stemmed from Valerio requesting the passcode to Montanez’s phone, things got more heated when Valerio began to throw things at her.
According to the mother of Montanez, her daughter was simply defending herself. “It was either her life or his,” the mother said referring to her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend, who she claims had been abusive in the past.
Montanez has been charged with multiple felonies, including murder and possession of a weapon.
