YNW Melly’s co-defendant, YNW Bortlen has accepted a plea deal in the high profile murder case.
Bortlen, reached a plea agreement that significantly reduces the charges he faced in connection to the 2018 murders of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy. Prosecutors dropped the first-degree murder and gang-related charges in exchange for his no-contest plea to lesser counts including witness tampering and accessory to murder.
Under the deal, Bortlen must submit a sworn statement outlining his role in the events, though his attorney insists he won’t be testifying against Melly. He’s been sentenced to 10 years, with four already served. After prison, he’ll be on probation for six more years.
Meanwhile, YNW Melly remains in jail awaiting retrial after his first trial ended in a mistrial. Prosecutors are still seeking the death penalty.
This plea deal could shift the entire direction of Melly’s case. However, it doesn’t appear that Bortlen is ready to flip on his friend.
