A minor who is accused of fatally shooting a 9-year-old last week has been taken into custody after he turned himself in and is now facing multiple charges.
The Atlanta Police Department announced Sunday that the arrest was made on Saturday. The young male faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Although the police did not release the suspect’s age, investigators previously believed a 16-year-old pulled the trigger.
The minor was taken to the Youth Detention Center without incident, police added.
Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a call to The Station at Richmond Hill apartment complex located in the 1700 block of Richmond Circle in southeast Atlanta, according to Lt. Ralph Woolfolk, Atlanta police’s Homicide Unit commander stated. The boy, Kemoni Mack, 9, died at the scene.
He was the fifth child under the age of 18 fatally shot in Atlanta this year, according to police.
