A few weeks ago we posted about R. Kelly’s 14 year old daughter Jaya, who is transgender and living her life as a young boy named Jay. While Jay’s mother Andrea Kelly has already shown support of Jay’s decision, we haven’t heard anything from Jay’s father Robert Kelly, until now.
While backstage at Chicago’s 107.5FM Summer Jam, Kellz did an interview where he finally touched on the subject of his daughter living as a boy and blogs reporting that he hasn’t addressed the matter. “You don’t really wanna open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son, because if that were true… Don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit. You know what I’m saying? Real talk.” He goes on to say, “Always believe what you see with your own eyes. I’ve heard a lot of things about a lot of people and it was never true.”
He then goes on to rumors about him going broke and having to sell his house. He refutes those rumors saying he wasn’t going broke, he’s just a divorced man who had no need for such a large house so he downsized. In talking about financials and downsizing he goes back to talking about his children, “You save money so your kids can go to college—no matter what they are or who they are. They’re still your kids, you gotta support them so you save some of that money because at the end of the day it’s not about me anymore. It’s about 3 lovely kids that I’m in love with and that are in love with me.”
I’m not sure how to take R. Kelly’s explanation. Sounds to me like he is still coming to terms with what’s going on himself. And while I understand him wanting to address it while remaining private, the whole “don’t believe the blogs” and “believe only what you see” thing is kind of pointless, given that it was Jay that came out on social media…not the blogs making it up. Then again, it’s always easy to blame the bloggers.
