Lifetime Is Developing Two Projects That Will Highlight R. Kelly’s Years of Sexual Abuse Against Women

Lifetime is developing two new projects, and this time it’s taking on #RKelly and his sexual abuse allegations.

On Monday (May 7), Lifetime announced it will be creating a documentary series and a feature film based on the 10 years of allegations against R&B singer R. Kelly. A statement from executive producer Dream Hampton says the docu-series will be “a captivating investigation” into R. Kelly. “For the first time ever, survivors and people from R. Kelly’s inner circle, are coming forward with new allegations about his sexual, mental, and physical abuse.”

The two projects come as a part of the network’s relaunch of their Emmy-winning Violence Against Women public affairs campaign. The campaign will include programming that highlights abusive behavior, according to Billboard.com.

“Partnering with advocacy groups and influential thought leaders, Lifetime will provide a platform to give women a voice where they have previously been unheard,” the network said in a statement. The announcement comes in the wake of the Women of Color of the #TimesUp movement joining up with the online #MuteRKelly campaign in a call to corporations to cut ties with the 51-year-old R&B star who has been accused of running a so-called “sex-cult.”

Through our years knowing Kelly we’ve heard several stories of his alleged sexual abuse against women, in particular, underage Black women. Back in 2008, the singer was also acquitted of pornography charges. As for now, there is no timeline of release dates for the projects.
