San Jose police have released a report about an earlier incident at the home of San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald, according to CBS San Francisco. The release comes weeks after McDonald was arrested on August 31 on suspicion of domestic violence involving his pregnant fiancee. As of this report he had not been charged.
The police synopsis describes a May 25 call to the couple’s home. Police say the engaged couple was arguing when the woman picked up a handgun registered to the man and held it at her side. When he said he would call 911, she put the gun away and left. The report states she did not point the gun at him or threaten to fire. It does not name McDonald or his fiancee.
Criminal defense attorney Steven Clark told CBS that the May incident could factor into McDonald’s defense. Kathleen Krenek of the group Next Door Solutions told the station the incident suggests the woman did not want the gun used on her. CBS included no statement from McDonald.
The 49ers have allowed McDonald to keep playing while the legal process continues. It is unclear whether the team knew about the May incident.
