Georgia Rep. Eric Bell Urges Dismissal of GloRilla’s Charges After Her Arrest Following Home Burglary

Georgia Democratic Rep. Eric Bell is calling for prosecutors to dismiss all charges against rapper GloRilla and is championing House Bill 464, legislation designed to shield crime victims from being penalized for unrelated minor offenses when they seek help from law enforcement.

“She deserves support, not punishment for trying to protect herself and her home,” Bell told Fox5 Atlanta. “We cannot send the message that doing the right thing puts you at greater risk.”

Bell framed HB 464 as a push toward “smart justice,” asserting: “HB 464 is not about going easy on crime. It is about being smart about justice.” He added, “No one, regardless of fame, background, or zip code, should fear being criminalized for doing the right thing.”

The controversy began after deputies responded to a burglary at GloRilla’s Forsyth County home around 1:30 a.m. on July 20th, when she was performing at the WNBA All‑Star Game in Indianapolis. Officials say someone inside fired at three intruders, who fled. No injuries were reported, and none of the suspects have been identified. While investigating that scene, deputies claimed they detected a strong odor of narcotics and later found a “significant amount of marijuana” and a schedule I controlled substance in the master closet.

On July 22nd, GloRilla surrendered to authorities and was released on a $22,260 bond.  She took to Twitter on July 24th, sharply criticizing law enforcement:

“CRAZY! My House got Home Invaded Saturday … and instead of Focusing on finding the Suspects , they focus on some cannabis … 1. So no I wasn’t busted. 2. My house got robbed. 3. I wasn’t home … Long story short, my house gets home invaded, and I’m the only one that gets arrested. So that’s tea.”

Her legal team echoed that outrage. Attorneys Marissa Goldberg and Drew Findling said: “The arrest of Gloria Woods is a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become … Ms. Woods is a victim, not a suspect.”

Sheriff Ron Freeman defended the department’s actions, stating: “The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” and added that “we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”
