During a candid conversation on The Baller Alert Show, the comedian, promoter, and producer detailed the moment his Rip Micheals health journey took a serious turn. Micheals said he knew something felt different while he was performing, but the full reality of what happened did not sink in until he regained consciousness.“I had a heart attack on stage, and I went to the thing, and I was like, Oh, this is, this is different. And I woke up, and I was like, Oh, this ain’t, this ain’t State Farm Arena.”
His confusion continued when he realized his surroundings had completely changed.
“What the hell is this?…Grandma, what you doing in here? So yeah, that’s how I found out.”
Micheals connected the medical emergency to his Fall Back in Love show, telling Baller Alert, “I did the Fallback in Love show and right then and there.”
His account adds more detail to a health crisis that became public in November 2023. Micheals revealed at the time that he had suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized after having to cancel a scheduled Apollo Theater performance. In his own social media update cited by the outlet, Micheals said his heart was functioning at 17 percent while he was receiving treatment from a heart failure team.
His health battle continued after that initial hospitalization. In March 2024, TMZ reported that Micheals said he was dealing with congestive heart failure and was awaiting a heart transplant. The outlet also reported that Micheals attributed his condition to genetics.
During his Baller Alert interview, the conversation turned to where those heart problems may have originated. Micheals explained that he believes his family history played a major role.
“So it means that my dad had heart problems when he was a kid and just passed it on to me.”
Even while discussing a frightening medical experience, Micheals leaned on humor to tell the story, something that has remained part of how he has publicly addressed his Rip Micheals health struggles. His latest account offers a closer look at what he remembers from the emergency and the moment he realized a night of comedy had suddenly become a fight for his health.
The full conversation, including Micheals’ account of the heart attack and the experiences that followed, is available now on The Baller Alert Show.
