Mattel is going all out for International Women’s Day by enlisting a sports legend to lead its newest campaign. The company recently unveiled the Barbie Dream Team, a global collective of “changemakers” who have been turned into custom dolls. Fronting the lineup is none other than Serena Williams, whose legendary tennis career and business ventures continue to inspire a new generation of leaders.
The initiative isn’t just about athletics; it will also highlight women across various high-stakes industries. Alongside the 23-time Grand Slam winner, the roster includes astronaut Kellie Gerardi, soccer star Chloe Kelly, and race car driver Regina Sirvent Alvarado, among others. The goal is to show young girls that there are no limits to what they can achieve.
For Williams, being immortalized as a Barbie is a deeply personal milestone. “I have always drawn inspiration from the powerful women in my life — from my mom, sisters, and daughters to the dolls in my toy box growing up,” she stated. “Now, I’m thrilled to be honored alongside this incredible group of female changemakers as part of the Barbie Dream Team.”
She remains vocal about her mission to empower youth, adding that she hopes this moment encourages girls “to pick up a racquet, become an entrepreneur, or do whatever ignites their passion and brings their dreams to life.”
This tribute follows a long-standing tradition at Mattel, which has honored over 100 influential women since the brand’s inception in 1959. It also rounds out a major year for the Williams family in the toy world, following the release of a Venus Williams doll in August 2025.
The celebration will culminate in late March with Barbie Dream Fest in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Fans can expect to see Williams in person as she takes the stage to discuss her journey and the importance of female representation.
