A traffic stop in Bluffton, South Carolina took an unusual turn this past weekend after police say a woman tried to talk her way out of an arrest by listing her personal accomplishments.
According to an arrest report cited by news outlets, a woman named Lauren was stopped just before 2 am on Saturday after officers say she was going about 30 miles per hour over the limit and drove past a stop sign.
The report says officers noticed bloodshot, glassy eyes and a strong smell of alcohol. Lauren reportedly told them she had only had two glasses of wine, and when asked how full the glasses were, she said she was celebrating her birthday.
Police say she did not pass the field sobriety tests and that a breathalyzer showed a blood alcohol level of .18, more than twice South Carolina’s legal limit of .08.
The report also claims Lauren kept making her case to officers, saying she had perfect grades her whole life, was a cheerleader and sorority member, and belonged to the National Honor Society. She also reportedly described herself as “a very clean, thoroughbred, white girl.”
Officers with the Bluffton Police Department were not swayed. According to the report, she was arrested on traffic violations and a marijuana possession charge. These are allegations from police, and no outcome in the case had been reported at the time.
