Just one day after announcing that his leukemia is no longer in remission, beloved sports reporter Craig Sager has revealed that doctors have given him 3-6 months to live.
The news was delivered via a short clip of Sager’s “Real Sports” interview with HBO’s Bernard Goldberg. During the interview, Sager says he asked what his chances were like and that is when his doctor gave him the prognosis. “I go, ‘I know, what are the chances?,'” he recalled. “And, ‘Well, normally you’ve got three to six months to live. But somebody may only have a week, somebody may have five years. You could be the first one to five years.’
The TNT sideline reporter, known for his jubilant attire, has vowed to continue fighting the disease, even stating his intent to continue reporting for the next couple of months. “Whatever it takes.’ I’m not going to be that three to six months, I’m going to be that five years. I’m going to make medical history. … I’m fighting this thing to the end. I have too much to do.”
Sager shocked the sports world in 2014 when he announced that he had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Sager was hospitalized and treated for months, but was able to return to his TNT position after undergoing a bone marrow transplant from his son. Sager’s cancer returned a for a second time before it again went into remission.
