New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing serious criminal charges, according to multiple reports from law enforcement records and local news outlets. Court documents filed in Dedham District Court, Massachusetts, show that Diggs has been charged with a felony count of strangulation or suffocation and a misdemeanor count of assault and battery.

The charges stem from an alleged incident that took place on December 2, 2025, though specific details about what occurred have not been publicly released. Prosecutors say the strangulation or suffocation charge is a felony, which carries significantly heavier penalties than typical misdemeanor accusations.

Diggs, a veteran wide receiver in his 11th NFL season, appeared in court recently where his legal team requested that the police report be sealed or impounded, a move the judge has yet to rule on. He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, 2026, which falls just two days before the AFC Championship Game in the NFL postseason calendar.

The Patriots organization released a statement acknowledging the situation, saying Diggs denies the allegations and the team supports him, while it cooperates with authorities and the NFL as the case continues.

Diggs has been a key offensive contributor for New England this season after signing a multi-year contract, helping the Patriots clinch the AFC East title.

This remains an ongoing legal matter with further developments expected as court proceedings continue.
