Switzerland Apologizes To Oprah After Racist Encounter

By now you may have heard about Oprah’s racist encounter in Zurich, Switzerland. While out shopping Motha O walked into the upscale Trois Pomme boutique and noticed a $40,000 bag she was interested in purchasing. When she asked to see it, the sales person refused and said that it was too expensive for her. I’m assuming she must have missed Oprah’s name on that Forbes list year after year.

Oprah described the exchange to Entertainment Tonight:

“One more time, I tried. I said, ‘But I really do just want to see that one,’ and the shopkeeper said, ‘Oh, I don’t want to hurt your feelings,’ and I said, ‘Okay, thank you so much. You’re probably right, I can’t afford it.’ And I walked out of the store.”

Little did she know, Oprah could probably buy that entire store if she wanted to, especially since she made $77million just last year. Don’t let the skin tone fool you. There is a black woman running around with even more money than Oprah.

Since the incident has been made public Switzerland’s national tourism board has issued an apology on behalf of the country, apologizing for how Oprah was treated, saying they are “very sorry for what happened to her.” The board also took to their Twitter and admitted the shop assistant acted “terribly wrong.” I guess they know the power Motha O holds. She could cut off tourism to Switzerland with a snap of her fingers. Don’t play!
