In a candid appearance on the “Barely Famous” podcast, the actress reflected on a pivotal chapter in her adulthood that tested her relationship with her twin, Tia. While many fans assume being a twin is a constant support system, Tamera admitted that their time as roommates was defined by a difficult struggle for individuality.
“For years, my sister and I lived together,” she said, marking that era as one of the most intense periods of her life. “One of the hardest transitions of my life being a twin, was that move.”
The close quarters eventually led to a breakdown in communication as both women began to outgrow their “twinned” personas. Tamera recalled the tension reaching a breaking point during their daily interactions.
“When we moved, I remember having lots of arguments,” she continued. I remember asking Tia, ‘Who the hell are you? Who is this?’ Then she was like, ‘Well, who are you?’ Because we’re different.”
According to Tamera, the “horrible” dynamic stemmed from each sister trying to force the other into a specific mold. It wasn’t until they stopped trying to be identical in every way that they found peace.
“We were so used to being the same,” she explained. “Then she would force me to be like her, and then I’d force her to be like me. And it was horrible. So then, I remember us having this epiphany, we’re different. You’re the yin to my yang. We actually balance each other out.”
Despite the past friction, the sisters have found a healthy rhythm as they navigate life with their own families.
On a recent episode of “Sherri,” Tamera shared how they now maximize their rare time together, like a recent “soul-cleansing” trip to New York City. “We had to have some amazing Italian food. We went, of course, shopping, but most importantly, we just bonded,” she said at the time.
While their busy schedules often keep them apart, Tamera looks forward to the holidays as a time to reset. “We have our own families, but it was good for our souls,” she shared. “And I can’t wait to see her again. We’re going to see each other for Thanksgiving. We’re going to go to Disneyland together.
