The Republican governor has announced the deployment of the Texas National Guard to “ensure peace and order” as cities prepare for further demonstrations against the Trump Administration’s immigration crackdowns.
Troops are already on alert in San Antonio, where rallies are expected Wednesday and Saturday. These events aim to show support for protesters in Los Angeles, where the demonstrations first took off.
Abbott emphasized that peaceful protests are permitted, but warned that any acts of violence or property damage would result in arrests. “Texas Guard will use every tool and strategy to help law enforcement maintain order,” he posted late Tuesday night.
This move comes as immigration enforcement continues to stir national controversy, with activists demanding an end to ICE raids and calling for immigration reform. Protesters across the U.S. are now bracing for a potentially escalated law enforcement response as more states consider following Texas’s lead.
