Trey Songz is back in the headlines after a late night in New York City reportedly ended with police involvement and criminal charges.
The R&B singer, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, was arrested in Manhattan following an early morning altercation at a Times Square nightclub. Prosecutors say the situation escalated after staff informed him the venue was closing around 4 a.m. According to court records, Trey allegedly punched a nightclub employee in the face, causing pain and swelling. He was taken into custody and charged with assault.
The arrest did not stop there. Authorities also linked Trey to a second incident earlier that same morning at another Manhattan lounge, where he is accused of causing roughly $1,500 in damage to property including hookahs, DJ equipment, and furniture. That incident led to an additional charge of second degree criminal mischief.
Trey was arraigned in court later that day and released under supervision. A judge issued an order of protection for the nightclub employee involved. He is expected to return to court in February as the case moves forward.
Through his legal team, Trey maintains that he was provoked and suggests the situation was fueled by outside parties seeking attention or financial gain. His attorneys say he is cooperating fully and believes the facts will ultimately clear his name.
