The Trump and Bill Maher friendship did not last long. Two days after Maher used his HBO show to defend having dinner with Trump at the White House for a second time, Trump fired back in a Truth Social post calling the comedian a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER.”

The post, which CNN reports is the longest Trump has ever written on Truth Social, came after Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. It was Maher’s first show since the October 15 dinner, which also included ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock.
On that episode, Maher brushed off liberal critics who were upset that he went back. He told his audience he did it again, offered no apologies, and cursed out anyone with a problem with it. He said being announced at the White House was “thrilling” and that he used the dinner to challenge Trump on issues, including his claims about the 2020 election.
Trump did not like what he saw. “After the second dinner, Bill’s ‘show’ was far worse than the first. He went crazy!” he wrote.
It is a big change from how Trump talked about Maher the day after the dinner, when he told reporters Maher “likes me a lot more than people understand, and I actually like him.”
In his post, Trump claimed Maher’s friend Chuck LaBella and Kid Rock lobbied him to meet with the comedian, and that Maher “invited himself to the White House.” He also made personal accusations he offered no proof for, calling Maher “a major POTHEAD” and claiming “Bill was drunk and had alcohol in his hand as he walked through the White House.”
The two sides also disagree on how long the night went. Trump wrote that the dinner “didn’t last four hours, it lasted two hours, maybe less.” Stephen A. Smith said on his podcast the next day that the group was at the White House for more than four hours, and Maher has said the same.
“I learned nothing, and felt it was a waste of time,” Trump wrote.
Trump also went after Maher’s audience, his ratings and even his studio laughter, telling him to “turn your Laugh Machine off.” He praised former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who was Maher’s guest Friday, saying she “was GREAT on the show.” Leavitt opened her interview by telling Maher that Trump “loved that dinner.”
The post also included some real news. Trump confirmed he is thinking about moving reporters out of the White House briefing room, though he denied reports that he plans to build a swimming pool there.
Trump closed with a message aimed directly at Maher: “Bill: Don’t call anymore. It’s useless.”
