Trump Calls Kamala Harris A Monster

Donald Trump’s recent appearance on Maria Bartiromo’s Fox Business Show was another spectacle; however, this time, he appeared a little more unhinged than usual as he ranted about his opponents—Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris, whom he called a monster.

According to New York Magazine’s Intelligencer, Trump discussed his “low character” competitors and accused them of conspiring against him. During his meltdown, Trump made claims that Biden was not “mentally capable” of lasting two months in the Oval Office. He then moved on to attack Harris’s position on fracking—and went as low as calling her “this monster who was onstage with Mike Pence.” He doubled down on that offense by repeating she was a “monster” again for good measure, he said.

Harris pledged to ban fracking as a candidate in the Democratic primary—a move presidential candidate Biden said he would not do.

The issue with Trump’s misogynistic behavior is that it is usually towards women of color. Harris was no exception to this immaturity. Despite the fact she made history as the first Black and Asian American woman to participate in a vice-presidential debate, Trump still slandered her name.

“I thought that wasn’t even a contest last night. She was terrible. I don’t think you could get worse,” he added. “And totally, unlikable. And she is.”

“She’s a communist. She’s not a socialist. She’s well beyond a socialist. Take a look at her views,” Trump said. “She wants to open up the borders to allow killers and murderers and rapists to pour into our country.”

We’ve heard Trump in the past refer to his opponents as “Sleepy Joe” and “Phony Kamala,” but Thursday’s “monster” rant was another low blow. Some view it as a dehumanizing term in reference to her color.

But like Forever First Lady Michelle Obama has often preached, “When They Go Low, We Go High.” Harris did not come to play during Wednesday night’s debate. She called Trump out on his racism, mentioning the time he called Mexicans “rapists” and “criminals,” as well as his travel ban on predominately Muslim countries, and when he said there were good people “on both sides” of the fatal white supremacist rally that took place in Charlottesville.

In 2005, Trump referred to his own pregnant wife as a “monster in the most positive way” after she gained weight during her pregnancy.

But the NAACP isn’t here for the Celebrity in Chief’s attacks, “It’s sad that comments like these from the sitting U.S. President are not only common but expected,” the association tweeted. “Yet, they are still UNACCEPTABLE!”

Senator Bob Casey shared the same sentiments, saying, “Calling the first Black woman to ever take the Vice Presidential debate stage a ‘monster’ tells you all you need to know about President Trump’s respect for women and people of color,” he wrote on Twitter.
