Donald Trump discussed a shift in how disaster relief funds will be allocated—emphasizing that states will receive less money, but in a more streamlined and centralized way.

Trump made it clear that instead of pushing large sums through state governments, the funds will come directly from the federal level, possibly through agencies like Homeland Security. “It’ll be from the president’s office,” he stated.

He pointed to a recent example where a state requested $120 million in disaster relief but received $71 million instead. According to Trump, the state was satisfied despite the significant cut. “They were very happy with the 71 million,” he said, suggesting that his cost-cutting approach was well received.

Trump noted that this new method would come into effect in the aftermath of future disasters. “We’re going to do it much differently,” he explained. “We think after this, Christy, I’d say after the hurricane.”
