Trump Showed Up In Vegas With A Whole New Head Of Hair And The Internet Has Questions

Two photos taken three days apart are doing all the work here, and the White House has not said a word about either one.

Trump Showed Up In Vegas With A Whole New Head Of Hair And The Internet Has Questions

Trump walked onto the stage at Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas Wednesday night with noticeably fuller, higher volume hair than he has had in recent appearances, and the internet has not let it go since. Journalist Aaron Rupar posted a clip asking whether Trump was rocking a wig or what exactly was happening, then followed it with a photo of his hair from a Fox News appearance the night before, which was visibly flatter.

The timing is what made it land. Three days earlier, on Sunday, strong winds caught him boarding Air Force One in New Jersey and lifted the comb over, exposing considerably more scalp than usual. That footage was already circulating when the Vegas photos hit. Same man, same week, two completely different situations happening on top of his head.

Adam Kinzinger, the former Republican congressman from Illinois who voted to impeach him, put it plainly on X Thursday afternoon, writing that Trump has a weave. He posted it while resharing an image from the Democratic Party’s official account showing the thinner version from recent weeks. Others got more creative. One person said he looked like Alec Baldwin playing him on SNL. Another called it a man wig and said how gender affirming of him. Not everybody came to drag. At least one large pro Trump account posted that this is proof he is aging in reverse and that his hair looks absolutely amazing.

Nobody has confirmed anything, and that part matters. What exists is two sets of photos taken days apart that look different, and a lot of people with opinions. The White House has not commented on the wind footage or on the wig talk, and that silence has kept the conversation going.
He has been fighting this particular rumor for over a decade. At an August 2015 rally in South Carolina in front of 1,800 people, he said flatly that he does not wear a toupee, that it is his hair, and he invited an audience member up to touch it as proof. In 2016 he let Jimmy Fallon run his fingers through it on television. In his 2005 memoir he said the hair was entirely his own. His usual line when the topic comes up is that he works at it.

The scrutiny has kept up this term. During this year’s State of the Union, viewers spotted what looked like a tag near the back of his neck when he turned to his left to acknowledge applause. It could have been a loose thread or a scrap of paper. It read online as something else entirely. Gavin Newsom used the same night to post that Trump needed some of his hair gel, and the White House responded by telling him to shut his filthy mouth.

Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan reported that his longtime aide and valet Walt Nauta, who held the title director of Oval Office operations, carried makeup, hairspray, Tic Tacs and a pair of scissors so Trump could trim the back himself when it got long enough to poke over his collar. He also signed an executive order last year rolling back water pressure limits on showerheads, complaining that weak flow meant standing under the shower for 15 minutes waiting on a drip, and said it would help preserve his hair.

The Vegas speech itself had plenty in it. He called Canada nasty and said the leadership is nasty while talking about the trade fight, which arrived the same week Prime Minister Mark Carney described the negotiations as nasty and said the two countries are in the middle of a tariff war. Very little of that traveled. The hair did.
