Authorities have arrested two Texas real estate agents who flew by private jet to Washington for the January 6 Capitol riot, according to PEOPLE. Both were on the same flight as another North Texas real estate agent who was charged earlier.
Jason, 37, and Katherine, 32, are charged with disorderly conduct and knowingly entering a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority. They have been released on bond and have not yet entered a plea. The charges are allegations, and both are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
According to the criminal complaint, Katherine posted on Facebook days before the rally asking if anyone wanted to come with her. Authorities say Jason organized the private plane, PEOPLE reports.
The two reportedly attended the rally. In interviews with authorities, they said they returned to their hotels afterward and learned about the unrest at the Capitol from there, then took an Uber to join the crowd. They said they had not planned to go inside. Jason said he asked a police officer whether he could enter after seeing people funnel into the building, and the officer replied that “everyone else is.” Katherine said she was pushed into the building by the crowd.
The complaint also cites a Facebook post attributed to Katherine in which she allegedly wrote that the National Guard “didn’t fight against us at all” and that after a woman was shot and killed, “that’s when we raised hell.”
Five people died in connection with the January 6 attack, according to reports, and members of Congress were forced to evacuate. Neither Jason nor Katherine had publicly responded to the allegations in the reports reviewed.
