Prince Harry has decided to not discuss who he’ll invite to his wedding to Meghan Markle in order to avoid creating an issue between British and U.S. governments.
During an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today, Harry was asked whether or not he’d be inviting former U.S. President Barack Obama to his special day, Harry responded saying he didn’t want to “ruin that surprise.”
However, there’s a theory in UK media that suggests the couple may not invite Barack and Michelle Obama, with whom they are friends because they don’t want to create controversy between the two governments if they were to leave #Trump off the guest list. In fact, sources say government aides are encouraging Prince Harry to leave the Obamas off the list to keep the peace with Trump.
“We haven’t put the invites or the guest list together yet so who knows whether he’s [Obama] going to be invited or not. I wouldn’t want to ruin that surprise,” the prince said.
Markle, who is an American actor, has criticized Trump in the past. In addition, there has already been some uproar about the celebrity-in-chief visiting the UK.
Markle and Harry announced their engagement last month and have set the wedding date for May 19.
