Starting in 2027, the carrier will introduce the “United Relax Row,” a set of three economy seats that can be converted into a flat lounge area after the plane reaches cruising altitude. This new setup is geared toward those seeking extra room, including “families with small children or couples.”
The airline’s press release explains that the transformation is made possible by “individually adjustable leg rests that fold up at a 90-degree angle.” To ensure the space is comfortable for sleeping or lounging, United will provide specialized amenities. Customers who book the new rows can expect “a custom-fitted mattress pad, specially sized blankets, extra pillows and a stuffed plush for children,” along with travel kits specifically for families.
This rollout marks United as the first airline in North America to provide this type of seating configuration. The company plans to outfit more than 200 of its Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 widebody aircraft with the Relax Row by 2030, with roughly 12 rows available per plane. These sections will be positioned between the standard United Economy and United Premium Plus cabins.
The announcement has already generated significant buzz on social media. After United shared a video of the seating options on Twitter. While pricing and specific booking details for pets or individual seat selections haven’t been finalized, United says more information will be released as the launch gets closer.
The entire row is alllllll yours.
