Viral Uber Incident

One woman has turned herself in, and another has agreed to turn herself in after a video of them harassing a San Francisco Uber driver went viral.

According to a statement from the San Francisco Police Department, police arrested Malaysia King, 24, in Las Vegas. They charged her with assault with a caustic chemical, assault and battery, conspiracy, and violation of the health and safety code.

The arrests stem from a viral video of three women who refused after an Uber driver asked to put their masks on. Footage shows the women cussing at the man, attacking him, snatching off his mask, and taking his phone. One of the other women is Arna Kimiai, 24, who has yet to be arrested. Her lawyer told police on Thursday that she plans on turning herself in, NBC News reports.

The incident happened on Sunday when the 32-year-old Uber driver picked up the three passengers in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood. The Uber driver decided to bring the ride to an end when one of the passengers refused to put on a face mask, which went against California’s statewide mask mandate.

The footage showed the two of the women threatening the Uber driver, identified as Subhakar Khadka, saying they would have family members “take care of [him].” He told the passengers to get out of his car but, when they refused, he turned on his dashcam to record the incident. “Luckily, my camera worked…it recorded audio, it recorded a video of the whole scene,” Khadka said. Khadka ended up taking them back to their pickup location.

The women have now been banned from both Uber and Lyft.
