A white woman has been arrested after performing a hit-and-run on two Black children.
Shannon Palmer, 31, was arrested on Aug. 4, a day after she ran over Troy Russell and Toriano Jamison and kept on driving. According to Newsday, Palmer hit the two boys with her white Ford Explorer on Ronkonkoma road in New York.
Troy, 9, had to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition and fighting for his life, BOSSIP reports. He is suffering from three broken ribs, a broken right elbow, a broken left thumb, a broken left Achilles heel, and his right leg was broken in half. Some Twitter users who have been keeping up with the story even claim the boy may have to have his broken leg amputated. As for Toriano, he is wounded with “gaping abdominal gashes,” a concussion, multiple hip fractures, and damage to his lungs, kidneys, and colon. The outlet reports that he may never be able to walk again.
A thread on Twitter said the boys were standing by their bikes during a scheduled play date when Palmer drove over the boys. The two children, who are brothers, were also accompanied by their younger 6-year-old brother, who was unharmed.
Palmer was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury. The Twitter thread also revealed that Palmer is allegedly a multiple DUI offender.
She has since been released.
Meanwhile, A GoFundMe has been started by the boys’ family to help pay for hospital bills and other medical expenses.
Prayers out to the boys and their family. JusticeForTorianoAndTroy.
