Thirty years after the original “Sister Act” was released, Whoopi Goldberg says she is ready to bring back the beloved role of Sister Mary Clarence.

The famed actress revealed to ET’s Rachel Smith that she’d been attempting to get the third installment off the ground for six years. However, Goldberg says the idea was shut down.

“I was told no one was interested in this. It takes a minute for people to realize they should take their foot out of their mouth,” she stated. Though it may have taken some convincing, the 66-year-old says the movie is definitely on the way.

“It’s coming. We gotta shoot it, but it’s happening,” she added.

“Sister Act” debuted in 1992 with Goldberg in the lead role. The film was centered around a nightclub singer who takes refuge from the mob in a convent and turns the convent choir into a soulful chorus. The movie grossed $231.6 million worldwide, becoming the eighth-highest-grossing movie internationally that year. Its sequel, “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit,” was released the following year and saw $125 million, which is still impressive considering the film’s $38 million budget.

Tyler Perry previously confirmed his involvement in the movie. In May, he shared that the film’s development was “pretty far down the line” and that he is looking to honor its original. While he may be producing the flick, he made it clear that “It’s more Whoopi than anything” when it comes to the film’s overall completion and success.

“The View” host couldn’t agree more and is excited for “Sister Act 3.” Dishing a bit on her character, she says viewers will get to see her as “much more of an adult.”
