Rihanna Shooting Case Timeline Takes Dark Turn As Judge Orders Mental Health Evaluation For Suspect

The woman accused of shooting at the home of singer Rihanna after a string of troubling online rants has pleaded not guilty. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, entered her plea on March 25 in Los Angeles Superior Court. Prosecutors allege Ortiz pulled up to Rihanna’s Beverly Hills property on March 8 and opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle.

At the time, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, and their children were inside the home. No one was injured; however, the case quickly escalated due to the seriousness of the charges. Ortiz is facing one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. She is being held on $1.875 million bail. Her attorney asked for a reduction to $70,000, but the judge denied that request.

Authorities say Ortiz fled the scene and was later arrested in Sherman Oaks. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has not confirmed a motive. However, Ortiz previously posted online, “Say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me.”

Now, her legal troubles could also cost her career. According to legal documents, Ortiz has been licensed as a speech-language pathologist since April 2016, with her certification set to run through June 2027. A member of the state licensing board is pushing to block her from practicing if she is released, citing public safety concerns.
