A woman named Asabi says a tattoo cover up she got at the Harlem shop featured on VH1’s “Black Ink Crew” left her with lasting damage, and she is suing. PIX11 reported her account in April 2015.
According to the report, Asabi, who lives in South Carolina, went to the shop to cover up a chest tattoo more than ten years old. She told PIX11 she chose the shop partly because it says it is among the best at tattooing darker skin. She said the work looked great at first, but the next morning the area around her left breast began to ooze.
Asabi said another tattoo shop later told her the skin had been overworked while trying to bring out a white color. More than a year later, she says she still has pain, raised scarring and itching, and uses an ice pack daily. She also said the experience has affected her confidence and caused emotional distress.
She is suing the shop for negligence. The report did not say how much she is seeking, who did the tattoo, or whether that person appears on the show. Black Ink had not publicly responded in the report we saw. These are allegations from a lawsuit and have not been decided by a court.
