The Remy Ma and Claressa Shields feud is back in focus after Shields said she does not know enough of Remy’s music to call herself a fan.
During an appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Shields named Eve, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Latto, and GloRilla among women rappers she listens to before Helwani specifically asked about Remy.
“I don’t know many of her songs, so no, I can’t say that,” Shields replied.
The answer stood out because Shields and Remy have spent more than a year publicly clashing over Remy’s estranged husband, Papoose. Shields is currently dating the Brooklyn rapper, and their relationship became public after Remy accused the pair of being involved while she and Papoose were still married.
The tension did not begin with Shields. Questions surrounding Remy and Papoose’s marriage were already circulating in 2023 after rumors connected Remy to battle rapper Eazy The Block Captain. In June of that year, reports claimed Papoose confronted Eazy during a Chrome 23 event. Remy publicly denied claims that Papoose had knocked Eazy out. Months later, Geechi Gotti brought the alleged relationship into his September 2023 battle against Eazy.
Shields entered the public story in December 2024. Remy posted screenshots she said showed private messages between Papoose and the boxer and accused them of having a relationship behind her back. Papoose responded publicly by accusing Remy of repeatedly cheating and saying he had asked her for a divorce multiple times. Shields also disputed Remy’s version of events. The cheating accusations from both sides remained allegations.
By May 2025, Shields was openly discussing her relationship with Papoose. During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” she recalled meeting him around a Shakur Stevenson fight in July 2024. That interview triggered another public exchange after Shields discussed Papoose’s divorce from Remy. The following day, Remy went on Instagram Live and challenged the idea that she was responsible for holding up the process.
Papoose then formally filed for divorce in May 2025, with documents obtained by TMZ citing irreconcilable differences. Remy and Papoose had been together for years, exchanging vows in 2008 while Remy was incarcerated and later holding a formal wedding ceremony in 2016. They share a daughter born in 2018.
Shields and Papoose continued moving publicly as a couple. In September 2025, “The Tamron Hall Show” featured their first joint television interview and identified Papoose as Shields’ partner. During the appearance, the two discussed their relationship and plans for their future together.
The feud eventually reached the music. On April 10, 2026, Remy released “W.Y.F.L.” The record responded to Papoose’s previous ghostwriting claims and included bars interpreted as shots at Shields. The song did not name either of them directly.
That history is what makes Shields’ latest response more than a simple question about musical taste. Whether she genuinely missed much of Remy’s catalog or simply has no interest in discussing it, Shields made her position clear without giving the Remy Ma feud another direct round.
